My first morning in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I took my guitar and walked to the water, where I often find some of my best inspiration. I found a chord progression I liked in the key of Bm and walked across the bridge, playing what would become my next song as I crossed the border into the state of Maine and made my way back to New Hampshire. I found a park that featured a tribute to a local artist, something of a renaissance man who wrote poetry, played songs, and painted many portraits of the harbor and the life it represented.

It got me thinking about those of us who carve our own paths in life rather than following the tried and true paths blazed by others. In this day and age, we have many examples of ways in which we can live our lives, but for those who live fully, their lives are fully their own. While there are many influencers that offer up great ideas and life hacks on how to accentuate your life with various activities and products, it is essentially up to each of us to choose what kind of life we actually want to build.

In this age of insanity
A world consumed with vanity
It may feel like there’s been some mistake
But know the harsh reality
is that it’s your responsibility
to choose who you will be
and what kind of life you make
