The Road To Will — Episode 1 — A Hero of Humor
In 2017, I was cast in the titular role of The Will Rogers Follies in my local community theater, and my life changed forever. I didn’t know much about him when I was asked to audition, but my research discovered that Will Rogers was the biggest celebrity of his generation, the star of stage, screen, radio, and print. If you can believe it, he was bigger than Taylor Swift.
He was also the only person in history to be invited to speak at both the Democratic and Republican conventions. His epitaph reads “I never met a man I didn’t like,” and I felt that his good humor was sorely needed in this generation. I was incredibly inspired by what he had to say 100 years ago and created my own one man show based on his humor and insight.
Unfortunately, few people today know who Will Rogers was, so I set out on a multi-state motorcycle journey to help people remember. I’ve split the 10,500 mile journey into twelve episodes, which will be released over the course of the next few months. I hope you enjoy the journey.
